BACKGROUND

The Rotorua Community ICT Trust was formed in 2003 to meet a variety of community needs. The Trust's aim is to grow the potential of computers and the Internet for Rotorua communities. This includes:

Raising awareness of the potential community benefits of information and communication technologies (ICT) .

Promoting computer training and community ICT initiatives in Rotorua.

Progressing Rotorua towards zero waste of computers by matching refurbished computers with deserving community groups and seeking more environmentally-friendly ways of disposing of surplus equipment.

The Trust works collaboratively with community groups, funders and other organisations. A key role is played by voluntary Trustees from the community. The Trustees set the direction of the Trust and provide knowledge, experience, contacts and assistance with running community ICT projects. The Trust also maintains links to a wide variety of Internet resources, including free and useful advice and computer tools.

The Rotorua Community ICT Trust is affiliated with the 2020 Communications Trust which in turn is a member of the Global Knowledge Partnership. The 2020 Communications Trust is a key player in the implementation of New Zealand's Digital Strategy.
